New Skills For Youth: $75 Million 5-Year Global Career Readiness Opportunity

Announced on January 19, 2016 - JPMorgan Chase is building on its commitment to expand economic opportunity through the launch of New Skills for Youth (NSFY), a $75 million, five-year global career readiness initiative aimed at investing in high-quality, career-focused education that prepares young people to prosper in the growing global economy. To transform how U.S. states design and deliver career-focused education, we will work with the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) and the National Association of State Directors of Career Technical Education Consortium to launch a competition for states seeking to expand and improve their career education systems.

Computer Science Meets Civic Duty: Grover Cleveland HS

Students at the Grover Cleveland High School of Academy and Information Technology were charged with the task of developing civic-minded mobile apps, focused on Forest Park, Queens NY.  On Thursday, January 7th, they unveiled their apps in the classroom at the Student App Forum.  Students utilized the Assistant Driver platform, known as App inventor to assist with coding to deliver final products that impressed both Chancellor Carmen Fariña, and Councilwoman Elizabeth Crowley.  You can download their apps on January 19th, in the Google Play store.

Preparing Students to Secure A Succesful Career in the Auto Industry

FORD Motor company and McKee HS through DANA Ford on Staten Island held an event on December 7th, 2015, to share great career choices available to McKee automotive students upon graduation. This event stands as the first of its kind ever held in the United States. McKee was selected by Ford because of its commitment to help its students enter the work force upon graduation. The event was covered by New York One News and the Staten Island Advance.  The MY1 video with student, Zully Roman has made its way to Asia, as well as to the President of FORD Motor company.

Simple Ideas Lead to Invention at MECA

Students and teacher Lora Morgenstern at the Manhattan Early College School for Advertising (MECA) have worked hard all year, and the proof was in their presentation, December 22nd, 2015.  The two characteristics that best sum up their achievements are creativity and critical thinking.  Inventions developed by the students included, a product that transforms a bathroom into a vacation setting, and a robot assistant that carries heavy packages. 
 
Partnered with the American Association of Advertising Agencies (4A’s), BMCC/CUNY and the NYC Department of Education, MECA is preparing their CTE students in the best way to move forward and succeed in the 21st Century.
