| Medieval Times Replicas 6th grade students created to go along with our unit on the Middle Ages in World Cultures class. They created a castle or replica from scratch(as you see some did Hanging Gardens of Babylon, Greek architecture) and it must have 5 components to their creation and then write a brief essay about it. For instance, what materials they used, who helped them? What did you enjoy the most about the project? and a background of the created castle/replica. They then present their castle/replica to the class. They all did amazing jobs and they were all so creative!!!

| Taking Flight 5th Grade math class built paper airplanes and went outside to test how far they flew. The students had to collect data and figure out their mean, median, mode, and range. They quickly learned which style airplane flew the furthest. The students were given a set amount of time and limited supplies and then instructed to make a paper airplane. We then went outside to the tennis courts where the students were given 5 trials to test and record their flights. Students were then permitted to make modifications and retest, if desired. The record at the time of this article is 50 ft! (Luis Decker).

| Troy School District Earns Bronze Award For the second year in a row, the Troy Area JSHS has been awarded a bronze medal national ranking by the US News & World Report! Superintendent, Mr. Young, has said, "getting students to the point in high school where their learning earns this type of recognition is not something that only happens after they reach 9th grade. It takes a coordinated K-12 effort to reach this level. Well done to all members of our faculty and staff!"

| Battle of the Books After months of preparation the time finally came for the Troy Battle of the Books teams; Starbooks 1-3rd edition, to compete in the yearly competition. The competition took place on April 16th at Sullivan County Elementary School. All together there were 20 teams battling for the first place spot. After 2 intense rounds in a question and answer format, our teams entered the final round with great anticipation of placing. Starbooks 1st edition battled against the “Wild Cat Readers,” a team from East Lycoming, while the 2nd and 3rd edition teams entered their final round battling one another. At the end of a long day of competition, our 1st edition team earned a 4th place standing, our 2nd edition team earned a 5th place standing and our 3rd edition team earned a 9th place standing overall. The coaches are extremely proud of all the hard work and dedication that each team member put
forth in preparation and participation in the competition. We are already looking forward to participating in next year’s competition with a trophy in our sites!

| 3rd Grade Farm Days
In March, the fourth grade students began reading the book Farmer Boy by Laura Ingalls Wilder in preparation for a field trip to Alparon Park in May. The Bradford County Heritage Association puts on a two day field trip called "Farm Days 1866" at the Village and other areas of Alparon Park as a living history memoir to Almanzo Wilder and his family, a 10 year old boy growing up in in agricultural family nearly 150 years ago. The fourth grade students went to "Farm Days 1866" on Monday May 9th where they toured the village which consisted of presentations from or about a blacksmith, a school house, the wagon/carriage display, a home, a church, threshing the wheat, making maple syrup, washing clothing, and caring for a garden. We then moved to an arena where students learned about various animals Almanzo and his family would have had on their farm including goats, a jersey cow,
sheep and how the shear them, and a team of oxen commanded to perform various tasks. Students also visited various demonstrations in two of the buildings at Alparon Park which were labeled as a Grange Building and a Merchant Building. The grange building included demonstrations by a cobbler, making butter, sewing a quilt, embroidery, hoop skirts and other 1866 clothing, separating the flax, and learning facts about various foods of the time period. The merchant building allowed the students to have many hands on experiences such as visiting an ice house, touring a carriage, writing a letter with ink and a quill, play games Almanzo may have at the fair, view cuts of meat from a butcher, learned how rope was made, the milling and grinding of corn, view samples of tin products, milking of a cow, and how to make home-made ice cream. Overall, the students were able to make a lot of
connections to what we read in the book and had an enjoyable experience!
