Chichester Harbour Race Week 2016 15-19 August

Hello from the Race Week promotion team

What’s most important about Race Week? Dinghy racing, of course. But there is much more to a good regatta week than simply excellent sailing, and this year the social programme for the event is bigger, better and brighter.
One highlight will be a return of the team sprint racing off the beach in the fleet of Hayling Island SC RS Ventures, spread over two afternoons rather than the previous single session. The more crazily-named teams that enter the more fun it will be and the more money will be raised for the RNLI, the 2016 Race Week charity. The heats will be on Tuesday afternoon, the finals after racing on Thursday.

First social event is on the Monday afternoon, when Chichester Harbour tactics experts Roger Palmer and Keith Walker will be leading a workshop on How to Win Race Week. They both have immense knowledge of the challenges of wind and tide on the water where the event takes place, and have plate-winning racing records to confirm their expertise. With four days of racing left there will be plenty of time to put their advice into performance-improving practice.

Monday evening offers two destinations for competitors, their families and friends. At HISC it will be prime time to boogey to The Senators band, while the more sedate can head to Mengeham Rythe SC for something brand new: Steve’s Quiz Night, plus bargain beer and bangers & mash.

On Tuesday evening it’s off to Emsworth Slipper SC to rock with SouthBeat Beatles tribute band, with more bargain beer.

Wednesday afternoon and evening see HISC transformed to a South American hot-spot for the Brazilian Beach Club party, celebrating Team GBR’s results in Rio. There will be themed music, food and drink to entertain all ages.

After Thursday’s Sprint Racing finals, the classic HISC Thursday night disco will be set alight by DJ Crazy Al.

And Friday? Prize-giving, of course, farewells and promises to return in 2017.

Remember, on-line early-bird entry at 2015 rates is available until June 30. Sign up now, via the website.
