| TIS Unites for September 11th September 11th is a day for our nation to remember and reflect. This year, TIS came together as one to honor those who gave the ultimate sacrifice that day. The 6th grade chorus helped with the remembrance this year by leading the Pledge of Allegiance and performing the National Anthem. We ended our remembrance with a moment of silence. Thank you to the 6th grade chorus for a beautiful performance!

Applying the Scientific Method In 6th grade Science, students used the steps in the Scientific Method to complete an experiment. Students first created a hypothesis for the scientific experiment, which involved a penny, an eye dropper, plain water and soapy water. The students needed to figure out whether they thought that the penny would hold more plain water or if the penny would hold more soapy water. The procedure consisted of taking an eye dropper, which they used to drop water onto the penny and then kept track of the number of drops of water that have been placed on the penny until the water runs off the penny. Then students recorded the number of drops on their data sheet. They repeated the procedure with the soapy water until all students in the group had a chance to do the
activity. At the end of the procedure, students needed to take the group data and figure out the mean/average. We then discussed the results and whether their hypotheses were proven correct or incorrect.

| 6th Grade Shines at Band Night On Friday, September 9th, the members of the 6th grade band had a wonderful opportunity to play with the Troy Trojan Marching band at the annual Band Night. Band Night brings together the 6th, 7th and 8th graders and the marching band for a home football game. The students in attendance had a blast playing in the stands and cheering on the Trojans. The 6th graders were also welcomed on to the field to play the National Anthem and Alma Mater with the marching band. The evening was full of laughs and smiles and it was a great way to kick off the school year!

| 4th Grade Transformations 4th grade class has been watching over their caterpillars for about two weeks. They have all turned into chrysalises at this time, and we are patiently waiting for them to hatch. Meanwhile, we have been using our creativity by keeping journals from our caterpillars' points of view. Throughout this project, we have experienced amazing life processes: caterpillars growing from small critters to full-size, five caterpillar deaths, the actual change from caterpillar to chrysalis! We have one chrysalis starting to make the changeover to "ready to hatch." Stay tuned next month for the completion of our project.

| Ancient Narratives in 6th Grade Sixth grade Social Studies students are learning about Early Civilizations. Before written records, the first civilians used cave paintings as ways to communicate and tell stories. Each cave painting was unique and always told a story of what happened that day or something that was worth creating. 6th grade students used black paper and white chalk to create a cave painting of their own. Their cave paintings also had to tell a story like those of Anicent civilizations. Their cave paintings show the creativity of every student. Students learned that with no words, stories can be told and understood.
