| Author Visits 3rd Grade Maryell Henderson a new author of the book squirt touches on the life of a stink bug who undergoes some bullying at school. You will have to buy the book to see how it turns out. Maryell read the story to the 3rd grade students.

| Lunch Menu We will be reinforcing our commitment to good nutrition for your children. Your child must choose at least one fruit or vegetable with lunch. We will be encouraging the students to try new vegetable selections. There will be a great selection of fruits and vegetables. Milk will be fat free flavored & fat free or 1% low fat white milk. All of our grain offerings are 100% whole grain rich. All of our foods are trans fats free and the sodium is limited.

| TIS Food Can Drive November is here. It's time again for our annual food drive. This year's theme is "Focusing on Families by Filling Baskets." We are helping the Lions Club collect for their basket campaign. Our goal is to fill as many baskets as possible. Please see the attached flyer for more information on items that are needed.

| Troy Rodeo Girl Crowned Marisa is a former Troy student who walked the halls of the TIS Building and now been chosen to represent the State of Pa as "Miss Teen Rodeo of Pennsylvania." She will travel the state and a little outside of our state talking to children. She will also open rodeos around the state carrying the American Flag in the arenas on horseback as the National Anthem is played. She will continue to compete in barrel racing, go to college to study Equine business management & horse training in the fall of 2017. We're proud of you Marisa!

| Artist of the Week! Every week a student is chosen to be an Artist of the Week and their artwork is submitted to the Towanda Daily Review and Canton Newspapers. The artist of the week feature appears every Sunday in the Towanda Daily Review.

Computer Programming for the Beginner Lightbot is great fun and does a surprisingly thorough job of introducing some pretty complex principles of programming

| Monarch Conclusion in 4th Grade The caterpillars have all emerged from their chrysalis and flown away. We were actually lucky enough to get one emerging ealthyon video! Our class took care of each butterfly as it prepared itself for flight. Out of the 26 butterflies, only 2 did not make it to adulthood. It was a great learning experience overall!

| Save Your Coke Caps The Physical Education Department TIS can use your coke caps to purchase equipment to benefit students. Save your coke caps and drop them off to Mr. Ward and Mrs. Sheeley.

| Skills in Studying 6th grade students were learning study skills from Mrs. Judson and Miss McCurry this month. They learned how to use study cards, study guides, and the smart board to get ready for their upcoming quiz.

| Pumpkins with Purpose In October, the TIS Life Skills class studies a unit on pumpkins, which we incorporate with learning about the seasons. We use these pumpkins to do many activities throughout the unit. We use them for shapes, sorting, sequencing, estimating, measuring, etc. Here is a picture of the pumpkins the students carved. This unit is a lot of fun and very educational!

| Cookie Dough Delivery Date! The cookie dough delivery date has been set for Wednesday, November 9th between the hours of 3:30pm-6:00pm. To avoid cramming of the buses, confusion and heavy lifting for the students, Parent(s)/Guardian(s) may pick up the orders in the TIS Cafeteria between 3:30-6:00 only, NO EXCEPTIONS! **All orders must be picked up and delivered directly to the customer or stored in a freezer until delivery. This product cannot be left out! **If you cannot pick up the order(s), you may send someone else to do so. Whoever picks up the order(s) will be asked to sign off on the pick-up and will be responsible for delivering the orders to you.

| Ancient Designs in 6th Grade While studying Ancient Civilizations, students in 6th grade created Ancient Ziggurats, or temples, based on ancient specifications.

| Guidance Program Overview

| 4th Grade Travelers 4th grade is starting a Flat Traveler project. We are collecting addresses from students and will be mailing our travelers across Pennsylvania. We are learning about PA communities, regions, and industries. Our Flat Travelers will help us to learn more about these things through their travels.

| High School is Collecting Coats The SHAKEE organization from the high school will continue to collect winter coats, etc. through Nov. 17th. Students from the high school will check in with homerooms on the 4th, 11th and finalize on the 17th for collections. So far an A Block class at the high school as collected 79 items to take the lead.

| Following Directions In 4th grade, we have been working on following directions. Students had to create an original pumpkin and write clear directions for it. Another student had to follow the given directions to recreate the pumpkin. Voting took place to choose the best pair and the most different pair. This exercise allowed students to experience how important giving good directions and following directions really is!
