Marketing Education Technical analysis: Candlestick Patterns Evening (doji) star: An evening star is a bearish candlestick pattern consisting of three candles that have the following formation: the first bar is a large white candlestick located within an uptrend; the middle bar is a small-bodied or doji candle, red or white, that closes above the first white bar. The last bar is a large red candle that opens below the middle candle and closes below the center of the first bar's body. This pattern is one of the most reliable bearish reversal patterns and is very similar to the island reversal in OHLC charts. It is an early indicator that a top is forming and a trend change could be at hand. Morning (doji) star: A morning star is an opposite sister of the evening star and is a bullish reversal candlestick pattern that consists of three candles. The first bar is a large red
candlestick located within a defined downtrend, the second bar is a small-bodied or doji candle (red or white) that closes below the first red bar, and the last bar is a large white candle that opens above the middle candle and closes above the center of the first bar's body. This formation is an early warning for a possible trend reversal to the upside. It is one of the more dependable trend reversal indicators for the markets to turn bullish.

|
These indicators are considered reversal patterns and both the doji and the small bodied middle candles have minor differences with the doji candle being the strongest of the signals when there is a complete gap between the doji and the surrounding candle bodies. •
