The students will be starting to use the heart zones system, during PE classes as early as March. Many thank yous to the high school PE classes that helped with the stations. A huge hit was the dunk station, and scooter basketball with mini basketball hoops. Your support of the PE program at TIS is very much appreciated.

| Learning the Meaning of the Flag Students have been reciting the Pledge of Allegiance since kindergarten, but do they know what it means? Third graders recently made books explaining line by line the meaning behind the familiar words. They learned the meaning behind vocabulary such as allegiance, republic, indivisible, liberty and justice. The students also discussed patriotism, how we show it, and why it is so important. Through words and drawings the boys and girls were able to show exactly what these familiar words really mean.

| Sweet Tasting Experiment A group of 4th grade students experimented with diodes, batteries, and a whole lot of candy and frosting to create Light-Up-Candy Houses. the process involved students cutting a milk carton to create a space for the light, using math skills to cover a house with accurately sized pieces of graham crackers, and using candy to decorate their house. The projects allowed students to experiment with diodes and batteries, as they had to figure out how to get them to light and stay lit. The experimenting with candy and frosting to create dazzling displays was most "tastefully" done!
