Surrender and Remember

This week we continued our Lent conversation by considering the "how" of transformation, and by reflecting on the concepts of letting go of our insecurities and remembering God's faithful love and presence.  If you'd like to read some background and check out some further Lent resources head to our blog here.  This Sunday we'll be experimenting with some unique community listening space as we continue our journey.   Wherever you're at on your own journey, our hope is that we can go together. Again, wherever you're at on your journey, our hope is that some of these themes, concepts, and experiences will provide a space to reflect on the big things in life.   As always there are lots of things going on in our community beyond Sundays, be sure to read below:
Things Going on In and Through Oak Life:

ROOTS-

Sunday Starting Time Announcement:  You may have noticed that we don't start our Sunday program exactly at 10am.  This has actually been strategic because we really love to create space for community and allow people to connect in the lobby.  Also, many of us run a little late ;) on Sundays (no judgment).  Well lately we've been going a bit over on time and as a result our awesome hosts (The New Parkway) have mentioned it.  So we're going to try starting a little bit closer to 10am, but we'd love to keep the space for folks to connect beforehand.  Here is what we're asking all of you- come a little earlier on Sundays to hang out and have coffee with us!

Good Friday Service:  This year Oak Life will be hosting a special gathering for Good Friday at Chapter 510 On Friday April 14th at 7pm.  We hope you can join this space of song, experiential reflection, and remembrance.

Easter 2017: Come hang with Oak Life as we celebrate the good news that love wins!  Our Easter gathering will be Sunday April 16th at our normal Sunday gathering time and place-  10am and the New Parkway.  We've set up a facebook event here in case you'd like to invite friends.

Baptisms: Baptism is a beautiful way to outwardly show an inward faith in Jesus.  We'll be scheduling some baptisms around Easter so let so you'd like to learn more about Baptism, just email us back!

Community Hang Out:  The Norman's (Kevin, Gina, and Nells) have invited folks to their place for a get Silicon Valley Season 3 Binge party on Saturday April 1st. Email Kevin or head to our facehttps://www.facebook.com/groups/901225709916105/book group to RSVP

Financial Workshop: Sat March 25th 9-11AM.  We've been super fortunate to get connected to a local ministry that provides financial advice for churches for no charge.  If you'd like to attend and learn more about how to get better with your finances please RSVP by emailing us back.  Space is limited so it's first come first serve.

Facebook Group:  Got a prayer request or community event you'd like to share?  Join our Facebook Group to keep the conversation going.

Facebook Daily Common Prayer: This year we've put together a Facebook group with a posted prayer each morning from the book Common Prayer: A Liturgy for Ordinary Radicals.  If you'd like to join or read more about you can check out the page here.

BRANCHES

Medical Support Trip Update:  Recently Oak Life sent a team of medical professionals on a trip to a refugee clinic on the border of Myanmar and Thailand.  If you'd like to read some reflections from one of the folks on the trip, Kaitlyn Gentilin shared some words on the Oak Life Blog here.

Third Sunday Donations:  Every third Sunday we donate our entire offering to a local non-profit or cause.  This week we donated our entire offering of $427 to the Interfaith Faith Movement for Human Integrity which supports immigrants.  If you'd like to suggest a 3rd Sunday giving option you can email leadershipteam.oaklife@gmail.com

Earth Day Volunteer Cleanup:  On Saturday April 22nd (AM), join some Oak Life folks as we help clean up part of our city.  More info coming soon- but mark your calendars!

Homeless Community Support: Oak Life is connected to a local camp community and we're always looking for donations to bring our friends.  Current needs include: bottle waters, packs of socks, cold meds, and gift cards.  If you'd like to donate, just bring something in on a Sunday and we'll deliver it that week.

Other Stuff?  Got ideas for other ways we can serve our community?  Want to start a new group?  Interested in organizing a hike our outing? Oak Life is a community led church- so let's make it happen.  Just shoot us back an email.

That's all for now!
