#DDAwareness17 - Life Side by Side

March is Developmental Disabilities Awareness month and this year's theme is Life Side by Side. HELP has joined forces with other provider agencies, county boards, and advocacy organizations across the country to promote Life Side by Side and awareness about people with disabilities living, working, and learning side by side with those who do not have a disability.

Community integration is a significant component of HELP's Adult Day Support programs in Euclid and Northfield. HELP staff are frequently taking consumers out into the community to explore local attractions, engage in new activities, and enjoy the sites throughout their cities. As Developmental Disabilities Awareness month comes to a close, we are proud to share these Side by Side outings with you to show you how much our consumers enjoy being able to live Life Side by Side.

Give Back to CLE

Consumers at the Euclid Adult Day Support Program gave back to their community by partnering with the Greater Cleveland Food Bank. In Memoriam - Brian Kelly

With heavy hearts we share the news of the passing of Brian Kelly. Brian, who was only expected to live a year or two, was born in 1964 with Down's Syndrome and other physical and metal challenges. He defied the odds and lived a meaningful life until he passed away at age 53 on March 23rd. Brian was a catalyst for the creation of HELP Foundation and played a role in legislation that now protects the rights of individuals with disabilities. Our deepest sympathies to the Kelly family and all of those who Brian inspired.

Consumers who live in HELP's group homes enjoy a family-like setting where their medical, physical, emotional, social, and developmental needs can be met. Our group homes have scheduled programming to keep consumers engaged and entertained while they are at home. These programs include Art Therapy, Music Therapy, and even adaptive yoga. The residents at these homes enjoy exploring new activities, learning new skills, and developing their hobbies with their housemates.
