Third annual directors vs. staff softball game

Grain Farmers of Ontario Board of Directors and staff participated in their third annual softball game on Wednesday, August 9 in Guelph. Staff, as the 2016 defending champs, expected a tough matchup with a Board team that was hungry to regain the Barry Senft Tractor Trophy. Despite an effort by staff to throw the Directors off their game with signs, noisemakers, and a loud fan-base showing their support, the Board came prepared to play, and took home the win with a 22-8 victory. You can view video of the game here. •

Producer verification letters - prize draw winners!

Grain Farmers of Ontario sent out letters to producers whose address and contact information had not yet been verified in our system. As an added bonus for this recent campaign, we randomly drew five names from producers who responded within the requested period to win a Good in Every Grain patio prize pack. This prize includes two folding chairs, a cooler, and a picnic blanket.

The winners are: Tom McIntyre of Simcoe County, Robert & Susan McClure of Halton County, Darlene Nottley of Lambton County, Ken Rastorfer of Perth County, and Stephen Kerrigan of Lambton County. Congratulations to our winners, and thank you for participating!

The accuracy of the farmer-member information we have in our files is important to us, and we will continue to send letters to producers whose accounts have been updated by a Licensed Dealer or who are new to the grain business. •

Be sure to share your encounter with Lauren Barker, Grain Discovery Zone ambassador, and your corn box fun with us on Twitter @GoodinGrain #GrainDiscoveryZone.

Research Tour follow-up

Last week, we hosted the first Grain Farmers of Ontario-funded Research Tour in Ridgetown. We have reviewed the completed surveys from the tour and appreciate the helpful feedback on aspects to continue doing and areas to improve, which will help guide the planning for our next tour. Thank you to all of the researchers and graduate students who contributed to our successful tour.

You can learn more about the tour in this week’s episode of Inside Grain Farmers of Ontario.
