The Power of Touch

This week we continued our "Senses"  conversation as we explored the ways we can encounter God's presence through touch.  As Matt led us in a reflection around the sense of touch, we engaged the story of a woman who found physical and social healing when she touched Jesus from Luke 8.  Our hope is that we can learn to be people who find our life in God's touch and who also extend our healing touch to those in need.  Like most weeks, our discussion was streamed on our Facebook page here.   Sunday was also a Third Sunday which meant we gave our entire offering away ($390)- this time it was to support a local teacher and their work investing in the lives of young people in our community.  This coming Sunday we'll be engaging and experiencing the sense of taste as we continue our Lenton journey towards Easter.  If you'd like to some resources and an intro to what the season of Lent is all about, head over to the blog.  Wherever you're at on your journey, we hope we can travel together!

As always, there are lots of things going on beyond Sundays, so be sure to read below:
Things Going on In and Through Oak Life:

Pastoral Announcement:
Chris and Alie received the gift of their first child this week, Elliott Matthew Scott!  As the Scott's welcome this new life into their family, Chris will be on paternity leave for the next few weeks.  If you have any questions about Oak Life, please direct them to Greg (greg@oaklifechurch.com).  The Scott's are tremendously grateful for all the support from the community (especially the mealtrain meals!) and request your continued prayers for Elliott's health and for their sleep.

ROOTS:

Newcomers Dessert postponed to a later date:  Since Baby Elliott came a bit early, this gathering will be postponed until a later date.  More info coming soon.

Good Friday and Easter:  There will be a special Good Friday gathering, in collaboration with our friends at Haven Church Berkeley, at 7pm Friday March 30th at Chapter 510 on Telegraph Avenue.  We'll also be having a very special Easter Celebration Service at our normal 10am gathering time and place on Sunday April 1.

Volunteering at Oak Life:  Pretty much everything that happens in Oak Life is a result of folks from the community participating in making us what we are.  We're currently in need of some more volunteers in areas like music, coffee, set up, and media.  If you're rooted at Oak Life we hope you'll commit to volunteer on one of these teams at least once every other month or so.  If you'd like to volunteer or get more info email Greg: greg.oaklife@gmail.com

Life Groups: Meet at various times throughout the week. Currently our Winter/Spring season is in session but if you're looking for info on a group, email back and we'll do our best to get connected.  Also, if you'd like to start a group, let us know!

Generosity Towards Oak Life: Oak Life's roots and branches depend on the generosity of it's community members.  If you'd like to practice financial generosity towards Oak Life, which pays for our rent, staff, and ministry expenses- you can do so online through our website here.   There are options to give on a one-time, monthly or periodic basis.   If you have any questions regarding financial stuff at Oak Life you can send an email to the team: finance-team@oaklifechurch.com

Baptisms: Baptism is a beautiful way to outwardly show an inward faith in Jesus.  We're working on scheduling a baptism up at Lake Temescal soon, so if you'd like like to learn more about Baptism, just email us back!

Facebook Group:  Got a prayer request or community event you'd like to share?  Join our Facebook Group to keep the conversation going.  Also, most Sunday's we live stream part of the service!

BRANCHES-

Third Sunday Giving Update:  Once a month we give away our entire offering to a local group or cause and it's been super encouraging to see the ways we've been able to join in good work in our community.  This month Oak Life gave $390 to a local teacher (Krystal Park) and her work investing in the lives of young people.  If you'd like to watch a thank you from some of our third Sunday partners click here.

Earth Day Cleanup:  On Saturday April 21st at 9:00AM join some Oak Life folks as we help clean up a local creek.  For more info or to RSVP email Sadie:  sgaff25277@gmail.comMore info coming soon.

Homeless Community Support: Oak Life is connected to a local camp community and we're always looking for donations to bring our friends.  Current needs include: bottle waters, clipper/bart cards, packs of socks, cold meds, and gift cards.  If you'd like to donate, just bring something in on a Sunday and we'll deliver it that week.

Social Justice Action Team (working title): We had a great first meeting, thanks to everyone who came out! If you'd like more info you can contact Greg who will be helping to facilitate: greg@oaklifechurch.com
