A MESSAGE FROM OUR CHAPLAIN...

Why Pray?

Once a young man who was beginning his journey with God asked: "Why pray, if God loves me and knows all my requests and needs even before I seek Him in prayer? Why would it be necessary for me to ask him anything?"  In answer to that young man's question, Ben Patterson said this: "The best part of prayer is God Himself."

You see prayer connects us with God Himself, the source and giver of all life.  God wants us to pray, even though He does know our needs, because prayer unites our parched souls with the life giver who alone strengthens and quenches our deepest longings.

The Bible tells us that, in the beginning, God had a daily, personal and intimate relationship with the human race.  However, as a result of Adam and Eve's disobedience and the inception of sin into the world, this relationship was broken: "It‘s your sins that have cut you off from God." Isaiah 59:2

In order to repair the bridge over the abyss and restore a relationship with the human race, God sent Jesus Christ: For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people‘s sins against them. And he gave us this wonderful message of reconciliation.  2 Corinthians 5:19 NLT

In the process of reconciliation, God presented us with prayer as part of the reestablishment of this communion. It is through this communion that we are renewed, strengthened, relieved, forgiven and saved. God's power and grace reach us directly and personally by means of prayer. For this reason Christ invites us: "Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest."  Matthew 11:28 NLT

Why not satiate your soul's deepest need? Why not find the necessary peace and rest? Seek the Creator and Sustainer of all things through prayer right now, in the assurance that "prayer is the key in the hands of faith to unlock the doors of heaven, which is full of God's unlimited blessings."

May the Grace of Jesus bless and keep you,
Paul Antunes
