I recall back in 1992 as Raquel, a friend of mine and I were driving through Snoqualmie pass in Washington, heading to Walla Walla that we hit a wall of fog so thick that I quickly pressed on the brakes, put on my low beams and almost pulled over.   
 
For the next 20 km's we crawled up the pass and down the other side with my hazard lights flashing, at times slowing down to 10 km's as TOGETHER WE desperately tried to make sure we could see the yellow or white line.   There were several times that I almost stopped hoping that someone in the large train of cars would pass me, but NO, they all followed in single line,  somehow trusting that I would get us all through.  Thank God we finally did get through that low lying fog and were able to resume our trip.  One's reaction to encountering fog when driving can teach us some valuable lessons about coping through the transitions of life.      
 
So let's quickly see the connection: 
#1 Slow down - When we hit fog, we have no choice but to slow down, and so is the same when we hit the valleys of transition.  When these transitions come, let us slow down to evaluate where we are individually, with each other and with God.  In Matthew 6:33, 34 Jesus makes it clear:  "But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble."

#2 Put the low beams on - Many times because of our high speed - focusing on the future and goals set, we forget to focus on the here and now, and we keep the high beams on.  But when the fog of uncertainty sets in we are literally forced to put on the low beams, and by so doing, the low beams shine on what is directly in front of us, and by God‘s grace allows us to see the potential potholes and dangers in the fog.
 
#3 Pullover - Although I did not pull over that foggy night, I would have had to, had I not had Raquel to be my other set of eyes.  But the reality was we SLOWED DOWN and put the low beams on.   Each of us has experienced moments where we simply have to pull over as the storm is too much to keep driving through.  We need to pull over and just sit on the side - safely allowing the storm to pass, evaluating, checking our life map - the BIBLE that GIVES us the much-needed direction and God's REST & PEACE for the here and now.  
 
    Brothers and sisters the uncertainty / fog of life are certain to come, so how we maneuver through those times is crucial.   Let us remember to continue to SEEK, diligently PRAY and TRUST that Jesus will lead us through these times.   
 
I have memorized this next verse, but I must confess I need God‘s strength and leading to internalize this.   “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths."
 
Ellen White said this many times.  
"In reviewing our past history, having traveled over every step of advance to our present standing, I can say, Praise God!  As I see what God has wrought I am filled with astonishment, and with confidence in Christ as leader.   We have nothing to fear for the future, except as we shall forget the way the Lord has led us, and His teaching in our past history."  Counsels for the Church, pg 359.4
