Vancouver Bird Week will be returning to celebrate all things avian! Stanley Park Ecology Society (SPES) is coordinating Bird Week again this year. From May 11 to 17 there will be workshops and walks galore hosted by a variety of partners across the Lower Mainland. From bird walk tours led by local experts to bird-related arts and crafts, there is something for everyone.
Leading up to the festival, Vancouver Bird Week will also be posting a new feature: Countdown to Bird Week! Join in as they profile a new bird species for you to discover – highlighting the diversity and beauty of Vancouver‘s local birds.
To launch Bird Week, SPES will be hosting a Bird Week Take-off Celebration on May 11th centered around the Nature House on Lost Lagoon. Bringing together bird enthusiasts and the bird curious,
visitors can create bird-themed crafts, learn how to spot common backyard birds, and take some Instagram worthy shots with our feathery photo wall. The Take-Off will also feature the return of the popular Bird Parade many will remember from Vancouver International Bird Festival last year. Occurring on World Migratory Bird Day, the original inspiration for Vancouver Bird Week, this Take-off Celebration is the perfect way to wet your beak for more bird fun!

| Urban agriculture creates vibrant gathering spaces, increases biodiversity, supports local food resiliency and promotes social inclusion. There are many spaces in Vancouver that could be ideal for urban agriculture. To better support and enable urban agriculture, we are inviting you to share your ideas, identify, establish, and steward potential new locations for 2020. Community groups or individuals interested in starting new urban agriculture initiatives can submit an expression of interest.

Geology of the Vancouver area as seen in Jericho Beach Park and along Kitsilano Beach. Where Jericho Beach Park Description What you will see: The tide will be low and after a brief sortie in Jericho Beach Park we will walk east looking at the rocks and landscape features both along the Kitsilano Beach foreshore and what we can see across Burrard Inlet. We will see coal-bearing sandstones with leaf fossils laid down by 40 million year old rivers; giant boulders brought south by glaciers from their source as far away as Squamish and stranded here 12000 years ago by the retreating ice; a volcanic dyke, evidence of 32 million year old volcanic activity; and how unceasing wave action is slowly eating away the beach frontage. Looking around Burrard Inlet, we will observe rocks and land forms that were created over the last 100 million years by plate tectonics, sea-level changes and ice movement. The route along the beach is somewhat uneven and rocky, so wear appropriate non-slip footwear
that may get wet from the sea water left by the retreating tide.
This is a free, public event for Salmonberry Days of the Dubnar Residents Association. No registration required. Date: Saturday, May 18th Time and duration: 11:00AM | Approximately 3 hours How do you get there?: This event will commence from the parking lot at the far west end of Point Grey Road (which is a cul de sac ending at the eastern boundary of Jericho Beach Park. Do not end up in the parking lot on the west side of Jericho Beach Park.
