Newsletter Survey
The Vancouver Park Board started the Environmental Stewardship Newsletter in February 2019 as a pilot to showcase the amazing work stewardship groups do year-round, share information and resources, and curate a list of events where anyone can become a steward.

We created this survey to obtain feedback and make adjustments that would better serve the needs and interests of those receiving and contributing to the newsletter.

This survey should take ~5 minutes to complete.

Park Stewardship Month!
yd2
Vancouver is home to some of the world‘s most beautiful urban parks. With the variety of parks in the city, each one offers a unique opportunity to access nature. Environmental stewardship in parks can provide an opportunity to create a personal connection to the natural environment while protecting and enhancing it at the same time. As a community we can steward our parks and natural areas to improve biodiversity and maintain our parks‘ ecological health.
From Sept 21 to Oct 20 we're celebrating Park Stewardship Month! This is part of a city-wide effort led by the Vancouver Parks Board to highlight and support local park stewardship, help grow the urban forest canopy and ultimately develop a diverse and resilient ecosystem.

The weekend kick-off to Park Stewardship Month will include the Park Board's annual Fall Tree Sale on Sept 21stStanley Park Ecology Society's Big Tree Weekend and TD Tree Days. During this time there will be stewardship events occurring across the city including planting events, stewardship work parties, and educational nature walks. Check out the list of upcoming stewardship events to see what is happening around the city and in your neighbourhood!

17th Annual Renfrew Ravine Moon Festival

Where

Slocan and Renfrew Park

Description

The Annual Renfrew Ravine Moon Festival is back for the 17th year on Saturday, September 14th, 2019! This popular, family-friendly event in Renfrew-Collingwood will bring you tons of live music, entertainment, beautiful art displays, food, and more, for a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon and evening. Each year, the festival attracts upwards of 5,000 participants from local East Vancouver neighbourhoods to enjoy the environment around them with displays of colour, light, and music that pay homage to the Renfrew Ravine: one of the last vestiges of both open stream and urban forest in the city.

Co-produced by Still Moon Arts Society and the Renfrew Park Community Association, the festival celebrates the harvest abundance and the full moon. The festival spans the afternoon and evening, beginning as a harvest celebration during the day and ending off as a lantern festival during the night. As dusk gathers, a procession will begin to form along the banks of the ravine, featuring illuminating lanterns that are beautifully hand crafted by local artists, community members and students.

Cracks in Creeks Final Showcase

Where

Collingwood Neighbourhood House Annex

Description

Cracks in Creeks: Live Streaming is a site-specific movement performance, sonic installation, and visual eco-art presentation on the banks of Still Creek, created with Still Moon Arts mentors and youth performers. The inspiration is from the Still Creek Watershed and ecosystem where salmon spawn in urban Still Creek next to roads, train tracks, and big box stores. Inspiration is also drawn from three other artworks about Still Creek and the salmon, as well as teachings about Indigenous plants and medicines.

The emerging artists that form this youth troupe performed a site-specific version of Cracks in Creeks: Live Streaming in the Renfrew Ravine on August 11th, as part of the Vines Art Festival. The performers embraced the natural sounds and beauty of the ravine in their surroundings, while the audience moved through the creekside space in Renfrew Park with the performers.

On September 22nd, you can witness the culmination of this youth mentorship project at the adapted indoor performance in the Collingwood Neighbourhood House Annex. Entrance to the final performance is based on a sliding scale from $5 to $20. Light refreshments will be served to go alongside this special story about our natural ecosystem.
