Welcome Back!

It is so good to have everyone back. We missed y'all!! We hope you had an amazing break and was at least 52% productive. 

New Members: Welcome to the team!! You made it through the long process and came out on top. You are going to be great! Don't be too nervous, we are all here for you. 

Returning Members: Be sure to welcome all the new students. Remember how it was for you on your first day in TRIO Upward Bound

Attendance/Communication

Attendance Policy
If you have to miss a Saturday for any reason, you are required to make up the work from each class on Canvas. You will need to complete each classes' work by the following Wednesday at 11:59 PM. If you do not have access to the Internet please inform a staff member immediately. If you are absent for more than 5 Saturdays we will talk about exiting you from the program. 

Communicate
If you are going to be absent, text, call in, or email staff members.  Do not wait until Saturday afternoon to communicate your absence.  Also, be respectful of UB staff; do not text or call after 10 pm or before 7 am.

You MUST communicate with us that you will not be here!

For Seniors

The Shot

The meningitis vaccine protects against meningococcal disease, which is a serious bacterial illness. Many colleges and boarding schools require it to protect students living in dorms. . 

If you have insurance it is highly recommended that you go to your doctor to get the shot. This would be the cheapest way for you.

If you do not have insurance you have options. You can go to the Denton County Public Health Department, CVS, or Walgreens to get the meningitis shot. However, CVS and Walgreens is pretty expensive - $75 - $150, so we recommend the Public Health Department. It will be a little wait but extremely worth it. 

Documentation 

If you have already gotten your shot all you will need to do is bring a copy of your shot record to UB. Eva Silvia will look over and make sure everything is okay. This document will then be sent to the colleges you applied for.

Saturday Class Schedule

Many of you have spoken to us about how you feel with the way Academic Saturday’s are set up (random groups instead of by grade levels). We understand you miss your class, but we hope you see the benefits of splitting everyone out of their class. There are so many amazing people in UB, and we want you all to get to know everyone. However, to show our appreciation of everyone’s willingness to adapt we will be going back to separating by grade levels for the spring semester.

You need to check Canvas anytime you miss a Saturday Meeting. This is how you can make up the work you missed and earn back half of your points.
