Working Together with One Heart, One Mind, One Thought The COVID-19 pandemic has prompted changes to our education system unlike any we’ve ever seen before. One thing we know for sure, though, is that we have come to work even more closely together to support students, families and school/district staff through these unprecedented times.
That collective spirit is already on full display in schools across the province. A great example can be found in SD 79: Cowichan Valley, where it’s been “all hands on deck” – everyone from bus drivers to custodians to administrators – working together to support learners and their families. We’re pleased to share Cowichan’s story with you, in their own words:

This Hul'q'umi'num' phrase truly reflects how the Cowichan Valley School District has worked with the community during the COVID-19 pandemic to ensure that everyone gets what they need to thrive.
When the pandemic became a reality in B.C., our District quickly looked beyond education, to a focus on community support and wellness. This important work was a result of the long-term partnerships that the community and our District hold.
Our District worked closely with non-profit organizations, individuals, First Nations, community groups and private schools, to ensure food was gathered and delivered to families. They also worked with businesses to ensure learners at home had access to new and connected technology. The continued well-being of the community is
truly a result of these strong, and interconnected, relationships.
Much of this work carried forward as learners were welcomed back to school on June 1.
