Peer Interviews

As we discussed, the next two Saturdays will be peer interviews. Peer interviews are a time for the current members to get to know the recruits. This is also a great time for recruits to ask members questions they did not ask during the panel.

Once you click the link button below it will take you to a page that looks like the photo to the left. You will select the day you would like to have your peer interview done on, October 31st or November 7th, and the time. Spaces for each day and time are limited so try to choose soon. 

Essay Hint: Your essay should have at least three paragraphs, one paragraph for each question asked. There is no length requirement for the essay, however, having at least a half to a full page is ideal.

Essay

In a typed essay, state why you wish to join Upward Bound, what Upward Bound can do for you, and what contributions you can make to this program. Use correct spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Organize your thoughts. Your response is used for admission into the program. Attach your typed essay to your completed application. Essay should be New Times Roman or Calibri 12 font.

Report Card

Depending on your school’s grading period, request your first nine weeks or your first six weeks. A screenshot or a photo taken of your report card is both acceptable.

Reports must be from this current year.

Recommendations

Choose three people (not your parents or relatives) to provide a personal recommendation for you. At least two recommendations must be from a teacher/coach/sponsor. One of these recommendations may be from a former teacher/coach/sponsor. Give each person the recommendation form and ask them to return the recommendation by October 30, 2020.

Recommendation Letters

Pick a person who knows you, someone who can discuss your character, ability, or academic performance. You can request them to write the recommendation letter either in person or by email, whichever is best for you. When you are asking for a letter of recommendation during junior and senior year of high school it is also a good idea to provide them with a resume – this isn’t necessary for UB’s form.

Advice:
 - Give them a brief description of the program
 - Give your person two weeks to complete the form (you don’t want them to feel rushed). 
 - If you haven’t heard from them after a week, send them a follow-up email just to check on how it’s going. You may not feel comfortable doing this so you can email them asking them if there is anything else they need from you to help with the form. 
 - If your person is worried about confidentiality, have them send the form directly to the UB email (untupwardbound@unt.edu)
 - Afterward, send them a thank you email or write a thank you note. (important!!)

Information Sheet

This sheet gives TRIO UB more academic information on you. We like to see where you currently are in your education plan and how much of the plan you have so far. 

There is a question about endorsement in this form, it is okay if you do not know your endorsement.

Principal Letter

Write a letter to your principal telling them the things you like and/or do not like about the school. This letter will not be given to your principal unless you state otherwise. If you'd like us to give it to them we will take your name off the letter. 

If you wrote your essay you can take a photo and email it to untupwardbound@unt.edu. 

If you are nervous about everything or have any more questions please contact us! If you'd like to know what portions of the application are missing or if everything looks good just send us an email. We don't want you all to freak out or be anxious about anything. Contact, Contact, Contact - even the little things!
