Maple Ridge 2020 BC Summer Games Sport Partner Fund Announced

The Province of B.C. and the BC Games Society are pleased to announce $130,000 in funding for the Provincial Sport Organizations (PSOs) and Disability Sport Organizations (DSOs) affected by the cancellation of the Maple Ridge 2020 BC Summer Games

The cancellation of the Maple Ridge 2020 BC Summer Games due to the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in a significant programming gap and missed development opportunity for the PSOs and DSOs that make up the BC Summer Games sport package. The Maple Ridge 2020 BC Summer Games Sport Partner Fund aims to provide programming support for these nineteen sport organizations affected by the cancellation to enhance participation in future BC Summer Games.

BC Games Official Appointed to Order of Canada

On November 27, 2020, the governor general announced the newest members of the Order of Canada, one of our country's highest civilian honours. Among the 114 new appointees is former BC Games official Tim Frick. Frick has been appointed for his expertise in coaching and his contributions to the advancement of parasports in Canada, exemplifying the Order‘s motto: “DESIDERANTES MELIOREM PATRIAM” ("They desire a better country").

BC Games Alumnus Josh Dueck Named Chef de Mission for Beijing 2022 Paralympic Winter Games

The Canadian Paralympic Committee has named BC Games alumnus and retired Para alpine skier Josh Dueck as Canada's chef de mission for the Beijing 2022 Paralympic Winter Games. As chef de mission, Dueck will promote the Canadian Paralympic Team and mentor athletes, coaches, and staff.

Athlete Eligibility Update for the Niagara 2022 Canada Summer Games

In light of the decision to postpone the Canada Summer Games in Niagara by a year, the Canada Games Council (CGC) has been working collaboratively with all affected National Sport Organizations (NSOs) to review each sport’s technical package and its athlete eligibility rules for 2022.
