Anna Huber named Karina LeBlanc Game Changer Award winner

The BC Games Society is pleased to announce that Anna Huber, a Thomas Haney Secondary Student, is the inaugural recipient of the Karina LeBlanc Game Changer Award. Named after hometown hero Karina LeBlanc, retired Olympic bronze medalist and one of the longest serving soccer players for Canada, the award recognizes and celebrates young individuals who have created opportunities for underrepresented youth in their community to participate more fully in sport.

Fort St. John 2020 BC Winter Games Legacy Distribution Announced

The Fort St. John 2020 BC Winter Games Board of Directors announced that $242,811 in legacy funds have been distributed to support sport development opportunities in the community. Memories of the highly successful Fort St. John 2020 BC Winter Games will live on in the community thanks to an unprecedented financial legacy that will enhance sports and arts opportunities within the Peace River Regional District.

Nominations Open for viaSport's Coach of the Year Awards

It's that time of year to nominate an exceptional coach for viaSport's Coach of the Year Awards! Founded by the Coaches Association of BC, the Coach of the Year Awards recognize outstanding coaches in British Columbia for their dedication and contribution to sport. The awards celebrate community leaders who continually inspire athletes to realize and reach their potential, qualities we have seen in many BC Games coaches.

Gord Collings Field Named After Team BC Softball Coach

UBC is honoring Thunderbirds coach and former Team BC coach Gord Collings with a field in his name to recognize a lifetime dedicated to the game of softball in B.C. The Gord Collings Field will be the new home of the UBC Thunderbirds, making it possible for the softball team to run their program on-campus.

Collings coached Team BC softball at the 2013 and 2017 Canada Summer Games and after years coaching locally, he became the Thunderbirds head coach in 2013.

Local Sport Relief Fund Supports Recovery of 288 B.C. Sport Organizations

The COVID-19 pandemic has put immense pressure on amateur sport in B.C. as opportunities for organizations to fundraise and provide programming to their communities has been limited. To ensure that everyone has the opportunity to participate in and benefit from sport, 288 local sport organizations have been awarded relief funding from the Province of B.C. totalling $1.5 million to support the recovery of amateur sport.
