Maple Ridge 2020 BC Summer Games Sport Partner Fund Recipients Announced

The Province of B.C. and the BC Games Society are pleased to announce the recipients of the Maple Ridge 2020 BC Summer Games Sport Partner Fund. 16 Provincial Sport Organizations (PSOs) and Disability Sport Organizations (DSOs) affected by the cancellation have been awarded funding totalling $130,000 to support programming that will enhance participation in future BC Summer Games.

One Year to the Greater Vernon 2022 BC Winter Games

Greater Vernon will host the 31st BC Winter Games February 24-27 2022, with 2,000 athletes, coaches, managers, and officials. Over 1,800 local volunteers will help facilitate 17 different sports. 

"Local members bring a strong sense of commitment and community to these Games,” said Val Trevis, President of the Greater Vernon 2022 BC Winter Games. “We are all enormously invested in seeing the Games come to Vernon where we can create the best possible sport experience and showcase success for everyone in this region."

BC Games & Team BC Alumni Honoured at Athlete of the Year Awards

Sport BC celebrated the 54th Annual Athlete of the Year Awards virtually on Thursday, March 25, 2021.The Athlete of the Year Awards recognize the province’s best in amateur sport including athletes, coaches, teams, and officials for outstanding performances in their sport over the 2019 season. Each finalist was nominated by their Provincial or Multi-Sport Organization, High School, College, or University.

Among the finalists are many whose paths to their tremendous careers in sport brought them to the BC Games or Team BC as athletes, coaches, and officials. There were 19 BC Games and Team BC alumni chosen as finalists with 6 of those bringing home top honours as award winners.

Local Sport Relief Fund Opens for a Second Intake to Support Recovery of B.C. Amateur Sport

As organizations in the B.C. sport community continue to feel the effects of COVID-19, the Province of B.C., together with the Government of Canada, are pleased to announce that just over $1,000,000 of funding will be available to applicants in a second intake of the Local Sport Relief Fund (LSRF). The LSRF is a one-time grant designed to provide financial relief for non-profit, community level sport organizations, clubs and associations at risk of collapse or insolvency due to the impacts of COVID-19. The second application intake for this funding is now open and runs until April 30, 2021.

Canada Games Presents: Getting Back in the Game

With the sports world on hold over the past year, many young Canadians have been on the sidelines missing important opportunities to train and develop.

There is a real risk of losing a generation of athletes and many Canadian youth may miss out on the benefit and boundless potential of sport. Check out Andi Petrillo's discussion with a group of top Canada Games alumni, including BC Games and Team BC alumna Karina LeBlanc, about the continued importance of sport for Canadian youth amid COVID-19.
