New Resources to Help Kids Steer Clear of Gangs and Guns

New online resources are available for educators, support staff and parents to help teach Grades 5-12 students about the dangers of gangs and guns.

Co-developed by the Ministries of Education and Public Safety & Solicitor General and Safer Schools Together, Gangs and Guns Online Resources is a suite of classroom-ready materials designed to increase awareness, knowledge and competencies related to gang and gun violence prevention. New resources include a four-part video series exploring topics such as why students join gangs; how gangs recruit new members; strategies to help kids resist the pressure to join gangs; and a cautionary tale of a young person who fell into the gang lifestyle with tragic consequences. Lesson plans and other materials are also available.

These resources are part of the K-12 Gang and Gun Violence Prevention Initiative, a key component of the Province’s erase strategy. They mark B.C.’s latest efforts to provide schools and families with the information they need to help students avoid the pathway to gang involvement and stay on track for a brighter future.
