1. CTLT Summer Institute Event: Supporting Classroom Climate with CTLT Indigenous Initiatives Resources -- August 23 9:00-10:30am

In this session, we will be showcasing three resources that the CTLT Indigenous Initiatives team have co-created to support bridging knowledge gaps in curriculum and ways to create supportive and productive classroom climates. Instructors will gain a better understanding of how to bring in Indigenous-centred resources to support curriculum development and classroom climate in a good way, and the importance of validating Indigenous knowledges, perspectives, and stories in the classroom.

2. Welcoming Students Back to Campus: Supporting Classroom Climate with UBC Indigenous Resources -- September 21 10:00am-12:00pm

The CTLT Indigenous Initiatives team will be hosting this session to welcome everyone back for the upcoming academic year. Please join us to learn about UBC Specific Indigenous resources that support students and classroom climate. Participants will have the opportunity to network with other members of the UBC teaching and learning community who are interested in learning more about classroom climate and engaging with Indigenous content in a post-secondary environment. The CTLT Indigenous Initiatives team will be sharing place-based resources that guide our programs and services.

3. CTLT Indigenous Initiatives Virtual Coffee Drop-ins

Do you have questions about how to thoughtfully integrate Indigenous content and representation into your course work? Curious about how to offer meaningful land acknowledgements in online meetings or events at UBC? Indigenous Initiatives’ Virtual Coffee Drop-ins are a great place to explore these topics, connect with others on the same learning path, or just get to know our team.

4. Walking the Talk: A Conversation with UBC Educators on Indigenous Engagement by Keirra Webb

On June 10th, CTLT Indigenous Initiatives invited members of the II-Learning Community, Dr. Benjamin Y. Cheung, Dr. Catherine Douglas, and Dr. Liane Chen, to a panel discussion entitled Walking the Talk: Sharing Our Practices. These UBC educators shared stories of their engagement with critical classroom issues that center Indigenous voices, experiences, and initiatives in a period of profound pedagogical shifts.

a. UBC Library Okanagan Syilx Research Guide

The University of British Columbia Okanagan campus is located on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the Syilx Okanagan People. This guide is a starting point when beginning to strengthen knowledge of the relationship between UBC, its community members, and the Syilx Okanagan Nation and people. The guide includes key resources, search strategies, and additional open access information sources for public use.

b. Indigenous Information Literacy Pressbook by Rachel Chong, KPU

A resource that has grown from a PhD dissertation that gathers and features success, in many different definitions, from Indigenous people throughout Turtle Island. It holds stories from role models in the form of communities, organizations, and events, as well as people.

c. Equity and Inclusion Office (EIO) Open Positions

The EIO is currently hiring for two positions. A staff position for an EDI Data Analyst who will be the key individual responsible for analyzing, reporting, and supporting the collection of EDI evidence and data. The staff position can be found on UBC Staff Careers (Job ID JR3546) A Graduate Academic Assistant position who will be supporting IBPOC initiatives at EIO, namely the implementation of the emergent recognition initiative for IBPOC staff. The GAA position can be found on CareersOnline site (Job ID 891644) and is closing August 27th.
