| We hope that you had the opportunity to engage in some valuable professional development on the October 22 provincial day. These days offer the gift of time so we can pause, take a breath, and refill our knowledge cups to move forward in our work with new ideas and inspiration. The ongoing demands of our work requires that we take care of ourselves and consult with each other. We value our collaboration and know that we are always better together.

| November - Take Care of Yourself (Chapter 6) Habit: Take Care of Yourself Disposition: Positive Self-Perception
Physical self-care and well-being are foundational for many other habits. When your body is cared for, you‘re better able to deal with emotions. Resilient people have a healthy self-perception, are committed to taking care of themselves, and accept themselves more or less as they are. Self-care is the root of resilience when you‘re dragging yourself toward winter break and your emotions are raw. (Aguilar, 2018)

|
Chapter Reflection: What are a couple of learnings you‘re taking away from this chapter?
What needs to happen so that you take better care of yourself?
What‘s one thing you could do immediately to improve your self-care? We encourage you to discuss the chapter, share your thoughts, and even explore some of the exercises in the workbook at your staff meetings and/or school based team meetings. | Workbook Suggestions: The activities in this section are very personal and are most suited to individual exploration. Please consider reflecting on the following:
"Take Care of Yourself: Resilience Self Assessment" page 310
" When You Are in a Self-Care Crisis" on page 317
"Sixty-Five Ways to Care for Yourself" on page 361

1. Parents as Education and Career Coaches Workshop (November 16, 2021)
2. Careers, Trades, & Transitions Information Evening (November 23, 2021)
Both of these will be valuable evenings for your families to attend as children in middle and high school are beginning to think about their future pathways, and parental involvement is a key to success. Parents will learn about navigating the post-secondary system, as well as the options available to SD61 students through Pathways and Partnerships. If you could send this information out in communication home to your families, and through your PAC's we would greatly appreciate it.

| Joanne Mitchell - District Indigenous Counsellor As District Indigenous Counsellor, Joanne is passionate about incorporating authentic learning about Indigenous issues into our schools. She feels it is important to understand a full spectrum of Indigenous perspectives: the history of Indigenous dispossession and trauma; the strength and resiliency of the culture; and, to present the beauty and intricacies of Indigenous worldview. With other members of her team, she strives to wrap our children in the protection of cultural strength and identity, and inform a new generation of learners about the importance of Truth and Reconciliation. The Indigenous team is here to create a vision for our district to move towards reconciliation by providing guidance and support to public educators to seek out authentic voices, unpack colonial theories,
and find the confidence to move forward in our vision where reconciliation can be felt both personally and
