We are back!!

After a nice little break, we are finally back in action! UB's first Saturday Academic Meeting for spring 2022 is tomorrow (Jan. 8) at the new location (Sage Hall).

COVID testing will take place in the middle of the first floor. If you happen to test positive for COVID, you will have to call a parent or guardian to come to pick you back up. No one who tests positive will be allowed to participate in the Saturday meeting, this is a precaution to keep everyone safe and keep the program running in person. Breakfast will be held on the second floor on the elevator side of the building. Now, remember, you will need to be tested before you go to breakfast.

The most important thing though, we are so excited to see you all!!

Attendance

If you have to miss a Saturday for any reason, you are required to make up the work from each class on Canvas. You will need to complete each classes' work by the following Wednesday at 11:59 PM. If you do not have access to the Internet please inform a staff member immediately. If you are absent for more than 5 Saturdays we will talk about exiting you from the program.

Communication

If you are going to be absent, text, call in, or email staff members.  Do not wait until Saturday afternoon to communicate your absence.  Also, be respectful of UB staff; do not text or call after 10 pm or before 7 am.

You MUST communicate with us that you will not be here!

About the Scholarship

One is the loneliest number. Three is a crowd. Then there is five. What's so special about five? Well, for starters, this lucky number could help you win a $1,500 scholarship.

It would take more than just one hand to count all the reasons why the number five is important - and we want to know what you think! What is it about the number five that's so significant to you? One great reason is that May is the fifth month - which just so happens to be a great time to apply for fun scholarships.

Help us bring awareness to the fifth month and the number five. We're awarding one $1,500 scholarship to a lucky student - and an endless supply of high fives.

Qualifications

 - Must be 14 years of age or older at time of application.
 - Must be a legal U.S. resident.
 - Must be a resident of one of the 50 United States or the District of Columbia.
 - This award is for U.S. students.

Submission

"May is the fifth month of the year. Write a letter to the number five explaining why five is important. Be serious or be funny. Either way, here's a high five to you for being original." (250 words or less)

Color Specialist/Consultant

A color specialist provides consultations to clients for their interior design or home decor projects. Also known as a color consultant, your responsibilities in this job can range from recommending color palettes and design trends for specific rooms to overseeing the entire project as the lead designer. As a color specialist, you likely need some post-secondary education in interior design, as you will need to understand advanced concepts like color psychology to give your clients a home they will love for years to come.

How to Become One

Becoming a color specialist does not require training or qualifications, though many specialists, designers, and color consultants are aided by formal education in design, fine art, or even psychology.

In all cases, you must have excellent interpersonal skills, a firm understanding of color theory, and a strong interest in current and emerging trends within design and art.

Duties

As a color specialist, your duties are performed in the creation of interior spaces, home decor, and commercial or residential interior design, meaning that some manner of prior experience in the business of interior design is helpful in progressing into the further specialized work of a color specialist. You may perform your responsibilities for an interior design firm or contract on a freelance basis, providing clients with your expertise on color palettes, paint schemes and techniques, and recent trends

Wages

Your pay will depend on experience, knowledge, skill level, location, and the type of sector you’re working in. Most color consultants are self-employed and work on a contract-to-contract basis. The median hourly wage is around $12-$15/hour when you’re starting out. If you’re working for a large interior design or decorating company for corporate clients, you may find yourself earning upwards of $150/hour!

Riddle Me This.

George, Helen, and Steve are drinking coffee. Bert, Karen, and Dave are drinking soda. Using logic, is Elizabeth drinking coffee or soda?
