Dan Moulthrop is CEO of The City Club of Cleveland, the nation‘s oldest continuously running free speech forum. He was a co-founder of The Civic Commons, a Knight Foundation project creating a social media environment designed for civil civic dialogue. Dan is also co-author, with Dave Eggers and Ninive Calegari, of the best-selling book Teachers Have it Easy: The Big Sacrifices and Small Salaries of America's Teachers (The New Press, 2005), which provided the basis for the 2011 documentary "American Teacher."

| Well Teacher Group
The Well Teacher Group is a free program that focuses on developing tools and skills related to improving teachers‘ vitality and resiliency. This holistic approach to wellness will equip teachers to make lifestyle changes that will positively affect their physical, mental, and emotional well-being. All groups are virtual, confidential, and facilitated by trained health consultants who are located in communities across the province. Groups typically run weekly for six weeks after school or in the evening, and contain 10 to 15 participants.

The groups will focus on the following areas: Discussions on the challenges facing teachers in maintaining wellness and balance, and how to improve these areas both with goal setting and commitment to self. Discussions on physical health challenges facing teachers, including pain, fatigue, ergonomics, and voice. The opportunity for teachers to examine their own levels of burnout and mental health, and to utilize tools to assist with managing negative thinking. Development of an individual wellness plan, with goals specific to each participant, based on the information and strategies discussed throughout The Well Teacher Group. Dr. Kelly Dean Schwartz (Associate professor in school and applied psychology) at the University of Calgary, and his team conducted a study focusing upon the following question: “What are the self-reported mental health needs and resiliency indicators of students returning to school amidst COVID-19?” Over 1,500 Alberta students ages 12-18 from multiple school divisions completed an online survey at separate times (September and December 2020, March and June 2021) about COVID-19 concerns, their levels of stress, behavioural and adaptive functioning and resiliency.

| We are working in partnership with the Foundry, to offer students a Frist Aid opportunity: training in administering Noloxone. The goal is to offer it at all our Secondary schools, and give an opportunity for interested middle school aged students to receive the training as well.

| Y Mind Teen Program SD61 and the YMCA have formed a partnership to bring the Y Mind Teen program into our schools. Y Mind Teen is a 10-week school-based curriculum Mindfulness Group that has been developed to help teens aged 13-18, manage their mild to moderate stress and anxiety, learn a variety of mindfulness activities, support teens in developing healthy coping strategies to manage stress, explore fun and creative ways to learn about mental wellness using, art, music, and media. Y Mind Teen is grounded in the evidence-based principles of Mindfulness and Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT).

This safe and welcoming group is run by trained school staff. Implementation of the program relies on a co-facilitation model, led by (one counsellor and one teacher, or two counsellors/ YFC‘s). A 2-day training is provided by the YMCA at no cost and covers the program curriculum for the 10 weekly sessions, psychoeducation materials for anxiety, stress and worry, foundational approaches (ACT and Mindfulness) and facilitation tools and strategies. The training is meant to be as experiential as possible, and participants engage with the materials, take part in discussions and practice some of the program delivery methods.
| Since 2019, 25 GVSD staff have been trained under the program‘s former name, Y Teen Mindfulness, and the curriculum has been implemented by 3 Middle and 4 Secondary schools to date. The program has since rebranded as Y Mind Teen (fall 2020) and revised its curriculum to include an updated manual, a new workbook for students, and Indigenous adaptations. FamilySmart has a workshop series called Help For The Hard Times. These workshops are for South Island families and caregivers whose child or youth has been a patient in a psychiatric unit or have had repeated hospital ER visits at Victoria General or Ledger House. These will be delivered every month and are facilitated by parents with lived experience and are hosted online.

Social Emotional Learning: Connecting the Dots video was created by the District Team can be used to initiate conversations, networking and sharing to unpack the “WHY” that drives our teaching of social emotional learning. The
accompanying slide deck and discussion questions can be used at monthly staff meetings (1 or 2 slides per meeting) or at a half day school wide Pro-D to engage in purposeful SEL conversations and exploration.

| The Kelty Centre‘s Where you Are podcast is back for a third season! In this first episode of the season, hosts Michelle and Bryn are joined by Kelly, a parent of a youth with an eating disorder, and Dr. Jennifer Coelho, Psychologist at BC Children‘s Provincial Specialized Eating Disorders Program, to answer questions we often hear from families about supporting a youth with an eating disorder. The conversation covers how to support your child at home, managing meal times, what to do if your child refuses help, tips about how parents can play an active role in your child‘s recovery, and which treatments really work.

Students and staff are encouraged to dig out Pink shirts from days gone by (2007-2021). The school (at each level) that has the most variety of shirts will receive a compliment of books to support their diversity collection.

| Joanne Mitchell - District Indigenous Counsellor As District Indigenous Counsellor, Joanne is passionate about incorporating authentic learning about Indigenous issues into our schools. She feels it is important to understand a full spectrum of Indigenous perspectives: the history of Indigenous dispossession and trauma; the strength and resiliency of the culture; and, to present the beauty and intricacies of Indigenous worldview. With other members of her team, she strives to wrap our children in the protection of cultural strength and identity, and inform a new generation of learners about the importance of Truth and Reconciliation. The Indigenous team is here to create a vision for our district to move towards reconciliation by providing guidance and support to public educators to seek out authentic voices, unpack colonial theories,
and find the confidence to move forward in our vision where reconciliation can be felt both personally and professionally.
