Language Interpreter
ISS of BC is looking for a volunteer interpreter to provide ‘on the spot’ support to both clients and Settlement Workers/Case Managers/Service Providers to convey spoken words from one language to another. Volunteer interpreters are responsible for listening, understanding and interpreting spoken language to another targeted language and vice-versa. Qualifications:
- Fluency in English and at least one other identified language: Arabic, Farsi, Dari, Mandarin, Pashto, Russian, Spanish and Ukrainian
- Familiarity with various interpreting techniques and modes
- Advanced English level – Canadian Language Benchmark or CLB 9 or higher
- Familiarity/experience in group facilitation
- Confidence in public speaking
- Cross-cultural experience or commitment to learn about others culture
- Familiarity with online video communication platforms/conferencing apps such as Zoom and Telegram

| Building Community Connections (BCC) Events Assistant The Immigrant Settlement & Integration Program (ISIP) at S.U.C.C.E.S.S is currently recruiting volunteers to support their outdoors activities which may include (but not limited to:) Building Community Connections (BCC) ‘We Live Here’ and ‘We Volunteer Here’ program at their Burnaby Service Centre. Qualifications:
- Intermediate Level of English or above
- Ability to speak a second language is an asset (Arabic, Chinese (Cantonese/Mandarin), Dari, Farsi (Persian), Korean, Russian, Ukrainian, Tagalog, Vietnamese)
- 19 years or older
- Customer service experience (preferred)
Time Commitment and Schedule:
- Events dates and times vary. Volunteers can sign up for the events that meet their availability
- Approximately 4 hours per shift
- Shifts timing differs depending on the event's schedule. Usually events occur between Monday to Saturday
