Hearts Unbound: Unveiling Anti-Oppression Insights with the Warmth of Resilience Forum

TCLIP Immigrant Advisory Table - Call for Applications
The Tri-Cities Local Immigration Partnership is now accepting applications for Immigrant Advisory Table members for 2024-2025. If you are an immigrant or refugee who is looking to take on a meaningful volunteer role and make an impact in your community, this is the right volunteer position for you.
Join us on this year's cohort of TCLIP‘s Immigrant Advisory Table, where you will be able to use your own experiences to provide advice and develop actions to improve newcomer‘s inclusion in the Tri-Cities. All newcomers, refugees, permanent residents, international students, and naturalized Canadians who live, study, or work in the Tri-Cities are eligible to apply.

Get Artistic in March - Tri-Cities Family Challenge Booklet TCLIP is hosting a 12-month family challenge where every month, families do an activity together and capture their memories through using the Tri-Cities Family Challenge Booklet. There will be a monthly draw for families to submit their drawings, photos, or stories for a chance to win prizes!
It's time for some spring cleaning! Take time out of March to clean at home or around your neighborhood as a family. Submit a drawing or story about how cleaning makes you feel for a chance to win this month's prize by March 28, 2024.

- Recognize suicide warning signs.
- Have a conversation with someone who may be at risk for suicide.
- Encourage someone to get the help they need.
- Refer at risk individuals to the appropriate services.

Port Moody Youth Scholarship Program
If you are in Grade 12 and intend to pursue a post-secondary education after you graduate, you can apply to the Port Moody Youth Scholarship Program. Each year, the City of Port Moody awards a $1,000 scholarship to a student in the city. If selected, the City will present you with a cheque after you provide proof of registration at a recognized post-secondary institution.
Youth Scholarship application process will be open February 1, 2024 to March 31, 2024.

Nominations are open for the 2024 Top 25 Canadian Immigrant Awards!

Applications for the Evergreen Cultural Center's 2024 Emerging Creators Incubator are now open! The Emerging Creators Incubator is designed to support six early emerging artists between the ages of 18-30 who engage in performing, literary, and visual arts and live on the Coast Salish territories colonially known as the Tri-Cities and Lower Mainland. Emerging creators will be guided by mentors and have access to studio space during the Incubator. The City of Coquitlam is planning active transportation and safety improvements across Southwest Coquitlam, including along Nelson Street. Currently, the Nelson Street corridor is missing continuous sidewalks, wheelchair ramps, curbs, gutters, a safe travel space for people to bike or scoot, lighting and street trees. The goal of the Nelson Street active transportation improvements is to create an accessible and safe multi-modal corridor for people of all ages and abilities who want to walk, bike, scoot, or drive between where they live, work, learn, play or shop.Interested community members and active transportation users are invited to get involved by:
- Attending a drop-in information session on Thursday, March 7, from 4:00 pm to 7:30 pm at Maillardville Community Centre (1200 Cartier Ave.), Room 1.

What do the letters SOGI stand for? Everyone has a sexual orientation and gender identity. That’s SOGI. Since we all have a sexual orientation and gender identity, this is a conversation that includes all of us. Some students may be seeking to understand their sexual orientation or gender identity. Others already know where they fit, but need reassurance that they are safe and welcome to share their authentic self with the world. Conversations about SOGI focus on understanding and supporting the diversity that already exists in our schools, our communities, and our world.

What is SOGI-Inclusive Education? SOGI-inclusive education is about making sure that schools have inclusive policies, welcoming learning environments, and teaching resources that showcase the diversity of our world. It is about looking critically at every aspect of the education experience — like policies, practices, facilities, and lesson plans — and identifying where change is needed to make sure that students of all sexual orientations and gender identities feel safe and can truly flourish. SOGI-inclusive education is delivered in an age-appropriate manner, with content that is tailored to each age group and context. Educators use evidence-based approaches that align with human rights standards. SOGI inclusion in schools is not a new or untested concept. It is an evidence-based approach that has been researched extensively, debated rigorously, and integrated into our legislation and human rights codes slowly
across decades.

Common SOGI Myths
Myth: SOGI-inclusive education pushes children to become gay or transgender. -
Explanation: Sexual orientation and gender identity are innate parts of who your child is. Nobody can change that, and nobody is trying to. The goal of SOGI-inclusive education is to create a school environment where every child can be their authentic self, without fear of harassment, discrimination, or being left out by others. Positive representation of the diversity that already exists all around us improves mental health outcomes for all students.
Myth: There is a special ‘sogi curriculum’ that contains sexually explicit material.- Explanation: The only curriculum being taught in your child’s classroom is the standard government curriculum, which is publicly available online. Every teacher decides how to approach curriculum requirements in their own way, based on thorough professional training – creating lesson plans and identifying teaching resources that they determine to be informative, engaging, accurate, current, and age-appropriate. SOGI 1 2 3 offers resources to help teachers meet curriculum requirements that include SOGI topics. These resources focus on representation and inclusion, and are different than sexual health education.

Digital Literacy Class Support Volunteer
S.U.C.C.E.S.S. is currently looking for volunteers to support its digital literacy classes for the Digital Literacy Exchange Program. You will be teaching digital literacy skills to newcomers and seniors in Cantonese, Mandarin, Korean, or Farsi. The education will cover computer skills, tablets and smartphones, online safety and social networking.
Responsibilities:
- Assist Digital Facilitators in teaching digital literacy classes to newcomers and seniors.
- Provide instruction in computer skills, tablets and smartphones, online safety and social networking.
- Provide one-to-one support to digital literacy workshop/webinar clients.
- Create a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages client participation and fosters a love of learning.
- Attend training sessions and meetings as required

| Repair Café
Repair Café by the City of Coquitlam are events where locals can bring in broken items to be fixed for free by volunteers. They support Coquitlam’s Environmental Sustainability Plan (ESP) goals to minimize waste generation and maximize reuse, recycling and material recovery.
Repair Café events are run by volunteers that are handy, like tinkering/fixing things, or simply want to help out in the community. The City is seeking volunteers that have a variety of these skills to help repair items at the events. Encore Careers is a government-funded employment program provided by Douglas College and is designed to assist people aged 55+ in their job search. It offers support in sustainable employment or self-employment, career exploration, skills training, and more over 10 weeks. This program can be a lifeline for those who have unexpectedly lost their jobs, those re-entering the workforce due to necessity or folks eager to rejoin work and explore new career paths as part of their later-stage journey.
