MARCH/APRIL SNAPSHOT TOPIC: Connection to Culture
| |
Transitions signify change which can be a gift, and also can present challenges for our teams, and our students. Change accompanies a range of big emotions, including hope, because at least some uncertainty is certain. However, what we can control is our approach, ensuring we pause to thoughtfully plan with all of the information we have, consider the pros and cons of ways to move forward, and choose the path of transformative success.
Transitions further provide us with a rich opportunity to reflect on:
- what has been working well
- what hasn’t been working
- what has worked to mediate or overcome barriers
- potential areas of focus to learn, grow, and move forward in a better way
Please refer to our Support for Learning website
Transitions page for documents to support transition and see the documents listed below for transition support specific to our students moving from elementary to middle and from middle to secondary.

District Transition Brief School teams are confident and familiar with supporting transitions for most students following typical transition timelines and processes. This document is intended to provide school teams with guiding considerations regarding transition planning for the few students having significant support needs.

Occasionally a student and their family will choose to attend school for an additional year following Grade 12, to support their pre-transition to adult life. In this case it is necessary for secondary school teams to consider how this additional year will | be planned to ensure continued student growth and development that is relevant and tailored to the student’s anticipated transition to community services.
